Introduction
MEMORIE della Società Astronomica Italiana is a professional
journal devoted exclusively to the publication of Conference Proceedings
and invited review papers. As a norm, review papers are published as part
of issues dedicated to single specialized topics. All papers should be
written in English.
Proposing to
publish
Conference organizers and proceedings editors seeking to publish in
this journal should send an e-mail to the
Editor
stating the title and date of the conference, a short scientific rationale
(1 page maximum) for the conference and a tentative list of speakers. They
should also indicate a date by which they guarantee to have the proceedings
volume ready.
The acceptance
stage
The material sent to the Editor is circulated among the Scientific
Advisory Board. The Editor and the Scientific Advisory Board will communicate,
within one month, whether or not the proposed proceedings are suitable
for publication in this journal. The decision will concern the scientific
merit of the conference as well as the technical possibility of producing
a timely publication, thus taking into account previous commitments of
the MEMORIE . A proceedings volume is then at this stage provisionally
accepted for publication and it is assigned a time-slot for publication,
together with a deadline by which the volume must be delivered to the editorial
office.
It is assumed that any material submitted for publication
is original and its copyright belongs to the author.
In case this were not the case, the fact should be notified to
the Editor, and it is the author's responsability
to obtain permission to publish
material already published elsewhere.
Failure to notify the Editor of the presence of copyrighted
material in an article may lead to the rejection of the paper.
Once the volume is delivered it will be reviewed by the Editor
and the Scientific Advisory Board to check that it is consistent with what was
proposed and that it meets the required scientific standard. If the scientific
standards are not met, the volume or parts of it, could be rejected at
this stage. The volume will be also checked by the editorial staff to verify
that it meets the required typographic quality; if not it will be sent
back to the volume editor for amendment.
If the deadline is not met
the time-slot assigned to the volume is considered to be lost and its publication
is shifted to the next available time-slot; the resulting delay in publication
is unpredictable.
Preparing the
manuscripts
The volume editor will provide the editorial office with the articles
in the form of LA T E
X2e files using the document class mem.cls
, available from the journal's web
site or directly from the Editor. You may download
the macro together with example files as a single
tar gzipped file. If you have some problems in downloading this file, do not
hesitate to send an e-mail to the Secretary who will try to help you.
The articles will be typeset in a two column format except for articles
containing long mathematical formulae. It will be the decision of the editorial
staff whether a given article is typeset in one or two column format. The
document class mem.cls has been derived from the
document class aa.cls
of Astronomy
& Astrophysics , with kind permission of EDP
Sciences . The style is the same of that of Astronomy & Astrophysics,
and the bibliography should be typeset using the package natbib.sty
and the style aa.bst
. Figures will be only accepted in postscript or encapsulated postscript.
The LA T EX2
e source code must include the commands necessary for inclusion of
the figures. L A T E
X2 e files which fail to compile or to produce an output compatible
with the journal style will be sent back to the volume editor for amendment.

There is no charge for publication in the MEMORIE up to a maximum
of 100 pages; pages in excess of this limit will be charged 20.00 EUR (+4%IVA) each.
